PhD Hopeful Christine Burrill

Since the age of ten I knew I wanted to be a volcanologist. I love being outdoors and traveling. I'm a little bit of a thrill seeker and I love learning new things. My path to become a volcanologist has been less than straight forward but here I am finally, embarking on my PhD, one of the final steps towards my dream job.

Don't know what a volcanologist is? Interested in becoming one?

Volcanology is the study of volcanoes and how they affect the environment. Volcanologists assist government officials in preparing for volcanic hazards and in warning people when an eruption is imminent. In the United States many volcanologists work for the U.S. Geological Survey or as professors at a university.
